What is an allergy?
An allergy occurs when your immune system overreacts to a substance it considers foreign or dangerous, even though it may not be. When you come in contact with the substance, your immune system may cause a reaction that affects your skin, respiratory system, or digestive tract.
In some cases, the reaction may be so severe that you go into anaphylactic shock, which is a life-threatening reaction that requires immediate medical attention.
What are common allergens?
You can develop an allergy to any substance, but some allergies are more common than others. Common allergens include:
- Pollen, grass, or dust
- Pet dander
- Food such as peanuts, seafood, milk, wheat, soy, and tree nuts
You may be at risk of developing allergies if it runs in your family. Children are also more likely to develop allergies than adults, although you can develop an allergy at any age.
What are common allergy symptoms?
Your allergy symptoms may vary depending on the substance to which you’re allergic and the body system it affects. Common allergy symptoms include:
- Itchy eyes and throat
- Runny nose
- Swelling of your tongue or throat
Some allergies even cause changes to your skin, making it red, itchy, and flaky. This is referred to as atopic dermatitis or eczema and can be very disruptive to your quality of life.
What can I expect with allergy treatment?
Dr. Moshkovich uses the NAET strategy to treat allergies. This innovative technique is a drug-free, noninvasive natural solution that can be used to treat any allergy.
NAET uses a combination of energy balancing techniques, including acupuncture, acupressure, and nutrition, to treat your allergies. The technique works by desensitizing you to the allergen so your immune system no longer causes an overreaction.
During your NAET session, Dr. Moshkovich treats one allergy at a time. With a mild allergy, you may only need one session. Dr. Moshkovich develops a personalized treatment plan when you come in for allergy treatment so you know what to expect and how to prepare.
Allergies can significantly affect your quality of life. For a holistic allergy treatment approach, contact Nirvana Naturopathics today or request an appointment online.

"For many years my daughter had struggled with multiple food allergies (dairy, all nuts, chocolate, etc.) and it was difficult for her to avoid those tasty foods. We thought we'd give NAET a try, but we honestly didn't know what to expect. Dr. Lana was incredibly kind and immediately built a wonderful rapport with my daughter who takes a quick interest in science and medicine. Dr. Lana explained how my daughter would not have to even come into contact with the allergens and how she could choose to receive either acupuncture or various forms of acupressure. After just a few sessions, we started to notice a difference in our daughter's reaction to foods, so we decided to have her retested at her allergist when she complete her treatments. We were beyond thrilled to see that ALL of her allergies are 100% gone (not a single nut allergy, no dairy, etc.) In just a matter of a few months her life has changed from checking food labels and wondering at restaurants, to now eating lasagna and fried chicken -- we promise to eat healthier in the new year, but for now we are indulging:)" — Jennifer R.
"Dr. Lana at Nirvana Naturopathics is a miracle worker. Really! I started seeing her for arthritis in my neck that had escalated to a pain level of ten out of ten. By the end of my first treatment of acupuncture and cupping, my pain level was down to six and after three treatments, pain was down to a three.
Dr. Lana pays attention to what you share with her and carefully addresses each issue. She has a gentle approach - so if you haven't had acupuncture before - she would be an ideal doctor.
I also appreciate the fact that she sends text reminders, the office is clean and organized and parking is easy! If you are looking for someone who can take a natural approach and is experienced in Chinese medicine, go to Nirvana. Her rates are affordable compared to many other practitioners and if you have an insurance plan that covers acupuncture, she accepts it." — Karolyn R.
