Cupping

What is cupping?

Also known as fire cupping, cupping refers to the application of small cups to the body’s surface using suction. It promotes the circulation of qi (your life force or energy), blood, and other fluids in a given area to reduce pain and inflammation and improve overall health and well-being. It may also help your body remove unwanted toxins and harmful substances to support healing.

Cupping is likened to a deep tissue massage that provides therapeutic results.

What conditions benefit from cupping?

Many conditions may benefit from cupping. Dr. Moshkovich may incorporate this alternative therapy into your treatment plan to help alleviate muscle pain and lessen the duration of your cold or flu.

Other conditions that may benefit from cupping include:

  • Herpes zoster
  • Back pain
  • Acne
  • Facial paralysis
  • Arthritis
  • Anemia
  • High blood pressure
  • Migraines
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Allergies and asthma
  • Anemia

Dr. Moshkovich offers many therapies to help you achieve your wellness goals and can determine if you would benefit from cupping during your consultation.

What can I expect during cupping therapy?

Cupping is a quick yet relaxing treatment. Dr. Moshkovich begins by first heating the treatment cup and then places it upside down on the specified spot of your skin. As the air inside cools, it creates a suction that causes the blood vessels in your skin to expand and your skin to redden.

Dr. Moshkovich leaves the cups in place for a set period of time, usually only a few minutes, and then removes them. The number of cups you need may vary, but generally ranges from three to seven cups.

After cupping, you can expect the redness on your skin to remain for up to 10 days. Dr. Moshkovich may provide an antibiotic cream and bandage so you can keep your skin covered and reduce your risk of infection.

Depending on your health needs, Dr. Moshkovich may recommend a series of cupping sessions to help you get the best results.

From pain to high blood pressure, cupping serves as a natural alternative therapy to help you manage your health concerns. To learn more about cupping and how it can benefit your health, call Nirvana Naturopathic today or book an appointment online.
